Circling midst lonely square,
Crowded lair
Of despair,
Dancing too debonair,
Masks we wear,
Masks we wear.

Scent of your floating hair
Sweetens air,
Fragrance rare.
Smiling as if with care,
Mask I wear,
Mask I wear.

Jaded by disrepair,
So threadbare,
Total tear,
Hoping for bright affair,
Mask you wear,
Mask you wear.

Saying I cannot bear
Blinding flare,
Beauty bare,
Sowing enchanting tare,
Mask I wear,
Mask I wear.

Hues of your eyes glassware
Shed no glare,
Just transpare.
Whispering hollow prayer,
Mask you wear,
Mask you wear.

Holding in charming snare
Figure spare
Full of scare,
Kiss of forged love I share,
Mask I wear,
Mask I wear.

Seemingly unaware,
You declare
Statement dare,
Spiritless vow you swear,
Mask you wear,
Mask you wear.

Waltzing in music fair,
Duo flair,
Painted pair,
Two mirrored solitaires,
Masks we wear,
Masks we wear!!!

Inspired & fueled by Coax - Jokers Waltz.

Done as an entry for Poetry Screams Prompt Contest - [link]

Prompt used: The Masks we Wear (obviously).

Ok, first, I want to say that I have a special affection to Coax - while it's not one of my favourite musical projects, my first poem, from which my rhyming quest here began, I wrote being totally inspired by Coax' "Glenk Jakomo" track from the album "The Third Moebius". Yeah, that track inspired me so-o-o much that I repeated it for, like, 10 hours a row. I'm not listening to it now due to a certain bitter feeling which got attached to it but that's another story.

So I was really eager to download and listen (Coax' music is free for download, per nice desicion of its author) fresh albums, and there was this track called "Jokers Waltz" and I think you get the rest.

So this one isn't just fully inspired by Jokers Waltz - it's a lyrics for it. I wouldn't call it 100% song 'cause who's trying to sing under a waltz music? Nah, it's somewhere between fixed poem ('cause each single syllable here follows a single beat of track's main theme and it's done in common 1-2-3 beat so the structure is stiff), spoken word and a song.

I'm not really sure as to how one would perform it - I tried different attitudes and couldn't pick one that's best. I loved overly dramatic one, though, where those second "mask/s I/you/we wear" are almost cried and lines are read in blatant, circus narration-style way.

"Jokers Waltz" is divided on two parts, first with 7 24-beat fragments (you read first 7 sextets for that part) and second with 6 24-beat fragments (you read last six sextets for this part).

Last but not the least: "Jokers Waltz" track can be listened to (and be downloaded for free) here: [link]

Or you can look at it at last.fm - it's also downloadable there.
